Running Workout: The Hill of Life

This is a run that is gaining much more popularity throughout Austin. It is called the Hill of Life. It is a challenge that every runner must experience at least once, and you will feel great about yourself when you make it to the top. However, you will feel awful when you make it to the top because of this monster of a hill's difficulty. This hill is littered with golfball sized rocks, covered in foot and a half ledges and about 3/4 of a mile of a steep 15 degree grade the whole way. However, when trying to communicate the intensity of this hill, words won't work alone, you need a video. When I searched Youtube, I couldn't find a single video of the entire hill, so I made one. I started about ten yards behind my friends and filmed them running the whole way up. I apologize in advance for the shaky footage, but you will understand why when you see the terrain I had to traverse in order to make this video.

The Workout:
To do a successful workout on the hill of life, you are going to have to run it more than once, that is the difficult part. When you arrive there, you are going to want to leave a water bottle at the top of the hill, and begin to WALK down. Never run down, I guarantee that you will slip and fall or twist your ankle. when you get to the base of the hill, there will be a trail. You can run on that to warm up, do drills and stretch. As you begin to ascend the hill, make sure to always look at the ground in front of you to avoid stepping on large rocks or tripping, and remember to always keep moving and try to never walk. When you reach a green sign on the  left side of the trail with a mile number written on it, you are half way. Try to push yourself as hard as you can on the second half. When you reach the top, get water and immediately start walking back down. If you stop for even ten seconds, your legs will begin to fill with excess blood and they will feel heavy and terrible. Try to run the hill three to five times. Enjoy!

The New Austin Fitness Ultimate

Hey everyone. Welcome to my new blog, Austin Fitness Ultimate. You may be thinking this is a blog that is only for those who are fit and live in Austin, but that is just not true. Austin fitness is a blog for anyone who is even wondering about fitness, and anyone can do the workouts, it is just that some are based in Austin on certain trails. Unlike other blogs, such as Austin Fitness Extreme, this blog is only about fitness, not about selling shirts or commenting on the latest People magazine. Most posts will be centered around running, including diet, training, products, or anything that could be useful for a runner or fitness fanatic to know about.

I am looking forward to years of posts and hopefully years of support from my readers!
